Learning In Style School: Living the New Normal

While most Learning In Style teachers and all Learning In Style students participate in daily classes from their homes via Zoom, the administrative team is at school providing support services, managing the Food Pantry, keeping the building and the gardens in good order. two women raking leaves in a yard

Registrations and testing are being handled in person. New students start by first coming to school for  individualized training in the use of the technology needed for classroom participation. This might include setting up a valid email account, practicing communication via ZOOM, helping the student become familiar with an LIS  provided device. We have been fortunate to be able to provide laptops for students who don’t own a device.

The teachers make appointments for their students to come to school and take their tests in person. Volunteer proctors monitor individual students being tested. We are careful to spread out and use Plexiglass dividers.

Most Learning In Style students who lost jobs with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic are still unemployed, so the Food Pantry is getting more and more use. Keeping up with the demand has been a challenge. Thankfully our community partner, the Blake School, recently had a food drive for us with amazing results. We are very grateful to CSJ community  members who have so generously donated to the Food Pantry. man at desk with textbook

We miss the whole team being together, and are praying for a renewed, magical New Year.
