Irene,
It was wonderful to read about you in the Pioneer Press! I've thought about you often since our days at the University of Minnesota. Last fall I spent two days at the Carondolet Center as part of a high school retreat for the teachers at Community of Peace Academy where I am currently the Instructional Facilitator. I wondered if I would see you there. It's great that you have this blog. Always moving things forward into the next century! Way to go!

I knew once I read the headline "Nun spreads the good word..." in the 11/5 Pioneer Press, that the nun is a CSJ. I am a graduate of St. Kate's and of a Catholic high school taught by CSJs. My first 2 years at St. Kate's, I resided in 1890 - a building now part of Bethany & the Carondolet Center.
The Sisters of St. Joseph have been a group of progressive women since the order's inception. Thank you for the role models you are to women of all ages & backgrounds. You are in my prayers that your order will continue to be the visionaries, leaders and protectors you are and have been for all people.Peace, Julie |

I UNDERSTAND THE GIVING FROM THE HEART. I DO HAVE A QUESTION. A FRIEND OF MINE IS A NOVICE AT THIS TIME AND HAS MINIMAL HEALTH CARE. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF SHE WERE IN NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION? DO NUN'S NEED A HEALTH CARE POLICY I SUPPOSE IS WHAT I AM ASKING?
WITH ALL THE GOOD DONE BY THEM, I CERTAINLY HOPE THE SAME GOOD IS DONE FOR THEM! |

I read with great interest the Pioneer Press' article about the blogging nun. One might wonder why a retired Lutheran Pastor would find it interesting, but I have so many pleasant memories of time spent in CSJ convents during my youth and childhood -both in St. Paul and Bird Island. Sister Carmela Hanggi (aka Aunt Caroline) was my father's older sister; she born in 1875 and he in 1879. My fondest memories of my aunt came after Vatican II, a when this Lutheran pastor and his wife didn't have to cloud our identities when we called on Sister Carmela at Bethany Convent. Keep up the good work; the Josephite sisters have a special place in my heart. Pax vobiscum. |

One of the programs of the Ministries Foundation is a series of information sessions re. the individuals programs of the Sisters of St. Joseph. The next program will interest you, I think. Save the date -- Thursday, November 16, 8:00 a.m. The speaker will be Jill Underdahl, CSJ, who will be discussing a very special ministry of the CSJs, i.e. the ministry to youth identified as "Celeste's Dream." This ministry has many faces -- programs for youth, retreats, a community garden, a locus for thinking about and planning for youth. We would truly appreciate your assistance in promoting this one-time event -- free and open, treats, and a chance to learn about, even shape, this unique forward-looking program of the CSJs. We hope to see you there!! Best, Mary Treacy, Friends of the Ministries Foundation |
